Budgeting for your fall wardrobe

Knowing when to splurge and when to save is an art of it’s own.

Having a fantastic fall wardrobe on a healthy budget is doable!

Here are 10 tips to get the most at of your money and the most out of your closet!

#1. Start with a plan. Search Pinterest, your favorite bloggers and make a list of the items you really want before shopping (trench coat, distressed jeans, vest, striped shirt, knee high boots etc. )

#2. Be specific. Know exactly what color you want to purchase an item in, and the type of fit.

#3. Use what you already have. Go through your closet. If you already own a navy vest search Pinterest for navy vest to see what items you can purchase to make that vest pop and put it to good use this fall!

#4. Keep it classic and fitted. Purchasing classic staples that fit properly such as a gingham blouse, Burberry check nova patterned scarf, brown riding boots, in colors such as black, white, light pink, off white and navy ensures a timeless closet that you can enjoy year after year.

#5. Look for “character” pieces to personalize your wardrobe. By using a classic wardrobe as a base you can use character pieces to make it your own and keep it trendy and modern.

#6. Accessorize! I love sparkly, blingy earrings and jewelry! I tend to loose my earrings though and sometimes I find my necklaces in my daughters room in not quite the same condition! This is why Forever21 is jewelry heaven!! When earrings are only $4 you feel like you can have your cake and eat it too!! It’s so fun to come out of that store with my loot!

#7. When to Splurge and when to save? It all depends on your budget and what items are most important to you. I think the items that matter most about quality are coats, blazers, and a good quality pair of jeans. I live in a rainy place so hunter boots were worth the investment. The most important thing about owning a more expensive piece of clothing is that it feels special when you wear it. Invest in that must have fur vest you can wear to make any outfit fabulous but save your money when it comes to the white tshirt basics.

#8. Keep track of quality. Notice what items stay in great condition wash after wash and from what stores. Which ones didn’t shrink or stetch. You’ll be suprised that there is quite a bit of cheap quality out there!

#9. Treat your clothes like gold… Or fine linen, because it is!! If it says dry clean only do not wash it!! Wash in cold water, always hang your clothes to dry. I only dry clean my jackets once a season and this might sound gross.. I don’t wash my jeans every time I wear them.

Always use a lint brush when necessary, and there’s a tool that can be purchased from the trailers to remove any peeling on sweaters.

Tip: Justfab.com is a great place to purchase boots and purses you love! I will warn they can be a huge hit or miss. They are great when it comes to exchanges so keep the boxes for the week, wear your item around the house and if it isn’t love exchange it! And if there isn’t anything else you like you can get store credit to use later.

#10. Think long term. Don’t just plan for this fall but falls in the future. A beautiful closet takes time to acquire. Purchase pieces you can look forward to year after year.
